About the project

The 217 MW power plant in Qadirpur is presently the only green facility of its kind in Pakistan to utilize permeate gas for reduced carbon emissions. The only gas based Independent Power Project in Pakistan to reach completion within the stipulated time frame, the Engro Energy Qadirpur plant has opened new doors of opportunity for investors hailing from Pakistan’s private and public sectors. This is a 1+1+1 configuration dual-fuel fired combined cycle power plant with a 123 MW Gas Turbine, 400 tons/hour Heat Recovery Steam Generator and 110MW Steam Turbine. The plant uses permeate gas as its primary fuel source and HSD as backup power.

What we provided

  • Customized total solution for blackstart, including calculations, design, and selective components and machinery.
  • 2 Mitsubishi Engine and Marathon alternator. Genset assembled by Kohler, Singapore.
  • On-site service and training.

The Challenge

  • To be capable of both emergency system as well as blackstart system.
  • To comply with the influence of the starter motor of load inrush on blackstart system stability.

Our Solutions

Need to provide 2 very stable sets of 1600KW engine synchronized parallel to form the required blackstart system, as well as a back-up emergency system. The back-up emergency system must respond instantaneously to ensure the whole power plant remains running.

The design of the engine, electrical and mechanical equipment must be able to withstand the extreme high on-site temperature.
